Learn to bodyboard and have lessons with Port Macquarie Bodyboard School, an ASI accredited surf school, located at Port Macquarie, about 450kim north of Sydney.

Port Macquarie Bodyboard School is owned and operated by John Gorton. John is both a surfer and bodyboarder. He’s been surfing from a young age and has been bodyboarding for over 16 years. John grew up in the local area and has bodyboarded all over Australia, UK and Bali. He also regularly competes in the masters events and won the national bodyboard titles in 2008, 2006 and 2005, and was placed second in 2007.

John is a qualified education teacher and taught primary school and adult education at TAFE for over 17 years. He also holds Surf Lifesaving Bronze Medallion, Senior First Aid and surf instructor qualifications.

Port Macquarie is a bodyboard town with ideal surf conditions. It has the oldest bodyboard club in Australia and has produced 2 world champions holding 3 titles.

John started his bodyboard school in response to interest from the community. He enjoys teaching and bodyboarding so it was a natural progression to start the school. He’s also involved in the local Port Macquarie bodyboard club, providing coaching and assistance with club activities.

John has a wealth of bodyboard knowledge. He has coached hundreds of people. Some kids had their first bodyboard lesson with him and have now progressed onto the competition circuit.

John is assisted in the bodyboard school by qualified instructors, all personally trained by him

Port Macquarie Bodyboard School provides high quality lessons using specially developed learn to bodyboard techniques for all ages. Lessons also include information on the surf environment.

Classes are kept small to ensure you have a personalised service. John and his instructors are in the water all the time making sure you have fun whilst perfecting your bodyboard skills. A large range of high quality boards and fins (flippers) is also provided to further ensure you have a unique experience.

Programs can be customised for schools for sports studies, PD-HPE, marine studies and special ed. classes.

For intermediate to advanced levels, John offers personalised coaching and video analysis for skills improvement.
