Aim
Instruct individuals at the improver to intermediate surfing level.
Locations / Remit
Instruct in surf / green waves up to 3ft (1 metre).
Career Outcomes

Entry Requirements
Before starting this course, you will have:
at least 750 hours surfing experience at various surf breaks.
have surfing skill and knowledge equivalent to ASI Level 7 Advanced Surfer - including being able to perform top turn, bottom with spray, re-entry, cutback and roundhouse cutback in 4ft to 6ft surf.
minimum of 12 months surfing instruction experience. (requirement may be waived if you have advanced to elite advanced surfing ability)
hold ASI Level 1 Surfing Instructor certificate.
(non ASI Level 1 Certificates may be accepted based on experience and surfing ability. Additional course work is required)
English speaking skills (online courses have translation)

Workshop: An intensive course that focuses on the major components, with the ability to interact with the trainer and the group.
Duration: 2 days.
Flexible Online Learning: Study in your own time with ASI's e-learning platform. Upload video to demonstrate skills.
Update: For ASI instructors whose qualification has expired and need to regain the ASI qualification. This is an online course option.

ASI's e-learning platform provides access to training manuals, videos, reference materials and assessments.

Course Requirements
At Workshop:
Complete theory and exercises, practice to complete your written project.
Demonstrate ASI Level 7 Intermediate surfing ability.
After Workshop:
Submit 1 written project.
Complete 15 practical hours experience (5 hours signed off in workshop).
Other:
Submit a current ASI Surf Rescue certificate or other surf rescue certificate. Refer to: Acceptable Rescue certificates
Submit a current senior first aid certificate. Refer to: Acceptable First Aid certificates
Submit identification
Submit child check (if applicable to your country).
Note: Surf Rescue and First Aid Certificates can be provided before or after workshop or within 12 months of enrolment.
Time to Complete: You have 12 months from date of workshop to complete all course requirements.
Re-assessment Fees: Apply if not yet competent in surfing ability or project. Fees

Equipment
The following equipment and clothing is required to complete the training:
Surf clothing
Fibreglass surfboard to demonstrate your own ASI Level 7 advanced surfing skills.
A student at the improver level (for your project).
Beginner soft-top boards with soft fins and leash and/or fibreglass board for your student project (depending on their level of ability).
Computer or mobile phone to access ASI’s elearning platform to view ASI Learn to Surf Beginner and Intermediate level online reference manuals.
Video camera or mobile phone to take video of practical skills.
