Overview
For some sports in Portugal, you should obtain a Titulo Profissional de Trienador de Desporto (TPTD) certificate to work as an instructor. The TPTD certificate is issued by the IPDJ (Instituto Português do Desporto e Juventude).
There are two levels for surfing:
Treinador De Desporto Surfing Grau I
The first level for surfing instructors.Treinador De Desporto Surfing Grau II
The next level for surfing instructors
This level is also required if you are a surf school owner.
To obtain your TPTD certificate, you must first complete a training course with a training provider that has been approved by the IPDJ. These courses are called:
Treinadores de Surfing Grau I
Treinadores de Surfing Grau II
There are 3 components:
General component
Specific component
Internship
ASI is approved to deliver Grau I and Grau II.
Once the General and Specific training is completed, you can start your internship. ASI issues an internship certificate and you can start working under the guidance of your mentor. Some surf schools offer a paid internship and others offer you the chance to gain experience with them.
When you have finished the internship, ASI issues you the ASI Diploma Treinadores de Surfing Grau I or Grau II. You submit this certificate to the IPDJ and receive your IPDJ Treinador De Desporto Surfing Grau I or Grau II. You are now fully qualified to work in Portugal.
