Link and perform intermediate level surfing manoeuvres, with control, correct use of paddle, on the one wave, on backhand and forehand. 

Intermediate level SUP surfing locations are defined as: 

• Non pitching (shallow plunging) waves  3-4ft  (1 metre)
• Sandy beach with even gradient and channel
• Free from strong rips, hazards, dumping shore break
• Wind speed less than 12 knots, offshore winds up to 10 knots

• Assistant Stand Up Paddle Instructor in the SUP or outdoor recreation industry.
• Industry job roles that require SUP knowledge (e.g. marketing, sales, retail)

Environment & Safety

• Identify SUP surf hazards and self rescue techniques at the intermediate level
• Choose a safe SUP surf location
• Demonstrate correct wipe-out and mount/dismount
• Demonstrate correct SUP etiquette

Equipment & Clothing

• Choose suitable SUP surfing board and accessories
• Choose suitable clothing for SUP surfing

Paddle Skills

• Choose a suitable place for entering and exiting the water 
• Identify and use rips and channels
• Negotiate broken and unbroken waves  
• Identify correct paddling out protocol
• Choose the correct waves to ride
• Identify suitable take off position
• Correctly ride the wave by understanding how body weight and speed affect SUP surfing
• Understand how correct use of the paddle enhances ability to perform manoeuvres
• Identify how to turn your board
• Identify methods to get off the wave
• How to wipe out safely at the intermediate level

Intermediate Level SUP surfing manouevres:

• Trim 
• Bottom turn
• Top turn 
• Cutback
• Link and perform intermediate level surfing manoeuvres, with control, on the one wave, on backhand and forehand. 

Before enrolling in this course:

• Experienced in SUP surfing waves up to 4ft.

• Be able to swim 200 metres (656 ft), without stopping.

• Have English speaking skills

Workshop
Duration: 1 day 

This is a participation course only. 
There is no assessment. 
Attend workshop, participate in theory and on water practical paddling sessions.
