enrol optionsSUP Wise Intensiv for enclosed flat water locations sets the world standard in learning to SUP. Gain the skills and knowledge to paddle with confidence, safety and correct technique, at a range of enclosed flat water locations.
Correct paddle stroke and other paddle skills is the key to paddling with safety, with ease and minimising muscle injury. Understanding your SUP environment and SUP hazards is also key to keeping safe.
This is an online course with access to a comprehensive manual, extensive photos and videos of correct and incorrect technique and more. Submit your own paddling video to receive written feedback on your paddle stroke technique and other paddle skills, and areas of competency or areas to work on. You can also attend an ASI Accredited SUP School to gain some on water practice and feedback.
Pre-requisite Course for SUP Instructors
This course is also a pre-requisite for the Level 1 SUP Instructor course. It can be completed online or at a special workshop called “SUP Wise Intensiv for Instructors”.
Aim
Identify and demonstrate the skills and knowledge to paddle with correct technique and safety at the foundations skill level, utilising the ASI methodology and guidelines.
Locations
The course applies to inland waterways including rivers, lakes, lagoons, estuaries, canals, with calm water conditions being:
flat water, with no swell or breaking waves
minimal water flow (less than 2 knots/ 2.3 miles per hour)
wind speed less than 12 knots
no more than 250 metres from shore

TThe following is required to complete the training:
Flat water stand up paddle board, paddle, coiled leash
SUP clothing suitable for paddling
Camera to take video (eg mobile phone)
Computer or mobile phone to access online manuals/ASI e-learning platform
Certificate Issued
On successful completion and deemed competent you will be awarded:
ASI SUP Wise Intensiv certificate
ASI Stand Up Paddlers Card (Enclosed Flat Water)
(This handy credit card sized card may be used to rent SUP boards or gain entry into higher level SUP courses.)
Renewal
There is no renewal requirements.
Study Option - Online Course
Study in your own time with ASI's e-learning platform.
Submit video of your SUP paddling skills.
Receive written feedback and support on your submitted videos - on areas of competency and/or areas to improve on.
ASI's E-learning Platform provides access to training manuals, videos, reference materials and assessments.
Entry Requirements
Able to swim 50 metres.
Course Requirements
Read online manual and view videos
Complete online multi-choice tests
Submit video of paddle stroke technique (3 short videos 1 min each - left side, right side, front on)
Submit video of other paddle skills (10 mins approx.) demonstrating ability to perform: enter and exit water, falling off, getting back on, paddling on knees, turning strokes.

12 months to complete all course requirements.
Practical Skills
You can also attend an ASI Accredited SUP School to develop your practical skills and knowledge. ASI schools can offer private or group sessions, ASI SUP Wise Activ and ASI SUP Wise Certificate courses.
ASI SUP Technical Coaches are qualified to take video, analyse paddle stroke and other SUP skills and provide feedback according to the ASI criteria.
