4 Stand Up Paddleboarders die on Cleddau River, Haverfordwest Wales UK

UK. WALES. A group of nine were part of the South Wales Paddle Boarders and Salty Dog Co, an organisation based in Port Talbot that made a trip last Saturday to explore the river on Saturday 30 October 2021.
4 paddleboarders died.  A women was arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter.
Met office had issued a yellow warning for heavy rain until Saturday, but flood alerts remained in place.  The river was flowing high and fast as a result of the rain.
There is now a Police and Marine investigation into the deaths including the river and conditions the paddleboarders were in.

ASI extends our deepest sympathy to the friends and loved ones of the paddlers who were injured or lost their lives in this shocking incident.
Since becoming involved in the Stand Up Paddle industry in 2009, we have always been alarmed and saddened when a paddleboard incident results in injury or death. 
Even though the named person who died and the SUP school, were not involved with ASI, and if any good is to come of such a terrible accident, we hope that all of us involved in the industry continue to assess any risks before embarking on stand up paddle activities, to keep our sport safe and ensure that tragedies like this never happen again.

Women Arrested for Gross Negligence

UK. Police have now advised that "Following the incident on Cleddau River, Haverfordwest on Saturday 30/10 a woman from the South Wales area has been arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter as part of the investigation,"
The thoughts of all at ASI are with the family and friends of Andrea Powers after it was announced over the weekend that she was the fourth paddle boarder to be lost following the devastating events in South Wales.
