ASI SUP Instructor - Tony Begg - Port Macquarie Australia

Tony Begg is a proud ASI SUP Instructor who owns and operates Port Macquarie SUP Fun from Port Macquarie NSW, halfway between Sydney and the Gold Coast.    
 
A lifelong elite surfer, when Tony suffered a debilitating back Injury it meant he could no longer enjoy the surf and as he says: “I felt like the saddest bloke on Earth!”.  
 
On a chance getaway at nearby Point Plomer, he met and got chatting to a SUP paddler. This chance encounter not only made him re-think his career but enabled him to reconnect to the water he missed so much.  He realised the benefits that stand-up paddle has to offer, engaging the core muscles, rehabilitating the body and a way back to enjoying surfing and being on the ocean.
 
Once he got home Tony researched the ASI and made a choice to start a SUP school with the support of ASI.
 
Tony says: “My choice was made clear, by opening a SUP school I could share my joy of the water with the young, the elderly and the inexperienced. I launched Port Macquarie SUP Fun, with the help of ASI – without which it would not been the same.”
 
A ‘born and bred’ Port Macquarie local, Tony has a vast knowledge of the area and its waterways. He says: “I'm passionate about everything I do and I was grateful to be supported by the ASI team while my business grew.
 
The ASI training is second to none and safety always comes first at Port Macquarie SUP Fun.”
 
The case of the missing wedding ring
 
Tony tells us about an unusual thing that happened to one of his clients: “A lady purchased her husband a gift voucher for Stand-Up Paddle board lesson for their 35th wedding anniversary. Whilst out on the water the gentleman's wedding ring slipped off his finger.
 
“His wife was most upset about this. They hired a professional diver at the fee of $250.00 to search the area to which he felt it slip off. Thankfully, the diver found the ring!
 
“An expensive paddle, but like the saying goes: "Happy wife, Happy Life!"
 
Port Macquarie SUP Fun offers group and private SUP lessons, tours and courses for all levels, ages and abilities. SUP on the calm and protected waters at Settlement Point, just 3.5 km from the Town Centre.  It has perfect scenery with an abundance of wildlife with, dolphins, pelicans, fish and birdlife all to be seen.
