ASI SUP Instructor Goran Gustavsson completes the Yukon River Quest USA.

ASI trained instructor Goran Gustavsson recently completed the 715km Yukon River Quest in June 2022, the world’s longest annual marathon paddling race on one of North America’s greatest rivers.
Located northwest of North America from Whitehorse to Dawson City, the race is 444miles long with six checkpoints across the route, to be completed in under 85 hours. Open to solo and tandem canoes and kayaks as well as solo stand-up paddle boards, paddlers come from around the world to test their endurance and ability in the wild rural scenery.
With a mission statement to “challenge paddlers in a world class wilderness event”, paddlers race day and night, providing the opportunity for personal challenge and accomplishment in an outstanding Northern wilderness setting.
The 2022 race broke the record for fastest completion time among many other records despite head winds on the lake and a variety of wind and rainstorms. Goran took to his Redpadleco Voyager 13’2 paddleboard placing 5th in one of the toughest events with the rivers in full flood – only later discovering he had COVID for the entirety of the race.
A huge congratulations to Goran for his resilience and success! Goran completed his training at ASI accredited school, Stand Up Surfing based in Western Australia back in 2018, and has since competed in several long distance paddles including SUP 11 City Race both solo and with a team.
