Caina Souza da Silva - a Career as a Surf Instructor

BRAZIL. The start of my career as a surf instructor was a special moment in my life and an interesting experience. Even more when I got to know ASI, and had the chance to improve my techniques as a surf instructor.

Since I was a kid this had always been a dream for me.

I was born in the Indian village Baía da Traição, in the Northeast of Brazil. Although I have left my home at young age, it was a great surfschool for me, and the place where I started surfing on pieces of wood.

A couple of years ago I moved to Europe and at the moment I am working for a Portuguese Surf School, where I can enjoy the beauty of the Portuguese coast, which is an incredible place to be.

One of the funniest moments during my career as a surf instructor was when a big swordfish appeared during the surf lesson. It was swimming around me and my students and I tried to get it with my hands. At first it escaped from me, but eventually I managed to catch it and took it to the beach.

That night I organized a fish barbecue with the other surf instructors and from that day on everybody called me the 'fish man'.

What I like most about my work as a surf instructor is seeing the happiness of the people I have given surf lessons.

An expression, a smile, a high five: these are thankful moments in life that, if you ask me, can't be bought with any money in the world.

A lot of things in life that I have achieved were because of surfing.

I’ve made a lot of friends around the world and had the opportunity to travel to some incredible places and to participate in contests.
 
There are no words to describe what it really is to be a surfer and surf teacher.

I am looking for evolution, waves and sunshine every day.  

I am an eternal student in this world and the ocean and try to pass on my experiences and surf knowledge to the students I teach, always with a lot of positivity and security.

Because "surf is life, surf is what we are".
