HELP

What is your background?

I live in the UK in central England where access to water can be difficult.

My only watersports background is SUP, although I have done this for eleven years.

What got you involved in the sport?

I got involved in the sport due to spinal issues preventing me from my usual fitness regime of running and mountain biking.

I also have a huge fear of water having nearly drowned twice in my life.

Why did you become an ASI instructor?

I became an instructor to try and overcome my awkwardness around people socially I struggle and do not fit it.

Also to help others understand and appreciate the benefits of SUP for physical and mental health.

What are you doing now ?

I worked with Central SUP, who were very supportive through my instructor training.  Once qualified I started working with them.

I recently concluded my time as an instructor, a decision made with regret due to ongoing health challenges and personal circumstances.

What do you like about being an instructor?

I loved being an instructor as it helped me connect with people and to pass on my knowledge and skills learnt over my 11 years paddling and learning.

I have also placed second in my class in the UK GBSUP national race series in my time paddling.

Tell us about funny or interesting or nice situation that has happened to you with instructing?

Any time you see somebody standing up for the first time and really enjoying the moment is a great situation to be part of.
