Introducing ASI SUP Instructor, Waliyuddin Nordin, Singapore

Introducing Waliyuddin Nordin, an ASI SUP instructor who turned his passion for adventure into a thriving full-time career. 

What is your background? 

I’m from Singapore and spent many years working as an outdoor camp specialist. Adventure has always been a big part of who I am.

What got you involved in the sport?

I had no idea what standup paddling was until a friend suggested I give it a try. After my first attempt, I was instantly hooked. It became something I couldn’t stop doing, and from there, it just took off!

Why did you become an ASI instructor?

Being an instructor in a different field allows me to challenge myself in new ways while also giving me the chance to connect with a wider range of people.

What are you doing now ?

I become qualified in April 2020.  And am currently a full-time SUP coach, teaching at various ASI schools across Singapore.  

It’s an amazing opportunity to not only share my passion for standup paddling but also to work with individuals at different levels. 

The diversity of students and the challenge of adapting my teaching to different needs keeps me motivated every day.

What do you like about being an instructor?

Coaching has always been a deep passion of mine. I’ve always found joy in helping others reach their potential. 

Whether it’s guiding students through challenges or watching them grow and succeed. It’s a role that truly excites and fulfils me.

Tell us about funny or interesting or nice situation that has happened to you with instructing?

Every session is different and unique in its own way but the one thing that remains constant is the smile on my student’s faces at the end. 

It’s incredibly rewarding to know that I’ve helped them enjoy the experience and progress in their skills.
