AUSTRALIA, NSW, CENTRAL COAST. Introducing Amanda Rivers, an ASI SUP Yoga instructor based at the Entrance, NSW, Australia. She runs the ASI accredited school Coastal Zen Yoga offering a variety of different classes and she even designs her own boards specifically for SUP Yoga and SUP Pilates.
1. What is your background?
I have always loved paddle boarding, yoga and the ocean. Years ago, I saw an article about SUP yoga and the idea stuck with me, so I became a Yoga Instructor. I gained SUP Yoga qualifications with ASI and started my own Sup School and Yoga Business.
2. What got you involved in the sport?
I love being outdoors in Nature and especially The Salt Water and becoming a Paddleboard instructor and SUP Yoga and Pilates Instructor allows me to combine all of my passions in one.
3. Why did you become an ASI instructor?
I became an ASI Instructor because I wanted to establish my business correctly and know I was operating in the best and safest possible way for my client’s safety and wellbeing.
4. What are you doing now?
I am currently operating my SUP School Coastal Zen Yoga at The Entrance NSW .I have designed my boards specifically for SUP Yoga and SUP Pilates and I currently run a variety of classes and styles on SUPS including SUP Pilates, SUP Yoga, Floating Yin ( yin yoga on sups) and SUP Fusion ( combination of yoga, Pilates and yin). My son Joel also helps with any paddle boarding Lessons and Hire.
5. What do you like about being an ASI instructor?
I love the ongoing support from the ASI Team. They take the hard work out of running a business with the excellent systems they have in place which gives me more time for fun in the water.
6. Tell us about funny or interesting or nice situation that has happened to you with instructing?
I love using props such as balls, blocks, bands and straps in my classes as I find that people tend to be very serious when performing poses on the SUPS for fear of falling in. I usually try to add a fun pose to my classes to give everybody a laugh and help them feel at ease. The prop tends to help them focus on an object rather than falling or perfecting the pose. For me it’s all about finding your balance between fun and fitness, connecting to nature and breathing in the salt air and feeling the salt water on my skin. I absolutely love what I do and am so grateful to be able to share my love of SUP Yoga and Pilates with my clients.
