Introducing ASI SUP Yoga Instructor, Reham Samir
Posted: 30 September 2022
ASI qualified SUP & Yoga Instructor based in Qatar, Reham Samir, recently introduced herself to us to share more on becoming an instructor, how she got involved with ASI and how it works alongside her primary job as a Projects Director...
What is your background?
I am Egyptian, and graduated with my bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Mechanisation Engineering and Landscape Design, and immediately went to work in different countries in Asia and Europe. Currently I work as Projects Director in Qatar.
My passion for sports led me to apply for different certifications to extend my knowledge and study the theory behind the sports I love to combine the role of practising with teaching.
Certificates I have:
EFR instructor (Emergency First Response)
RYS 200 Yoga Instructor
ASI SUP level 1 & 2 Instructor
ASCA Level 5 Golden Seal Instructor
Dragon Boat Competitor
What got you involved in the sport?
I had been raised in an athletic family who used to spend the long summer holidays by the Mediterranean sea where my love to the sea started when I was 3 years old. I started to join different swimming and fins swimming competitions by the age of 7. My passion for sports accompanied me through different stages of life, and I added new sports throughout my life journey.
My business was the main reason to travel around the world and to join many competitions, and my love of sports kept growing.
Why did you become an ASI instructor?
I love all water sports, especially SUP & SUP YOGA which I started 5 years ago, and I chose ASI because of their professionality and their wide educational experience.
What are you doing now?
Currently I work as Projects Director in Qatar, while also working as a freelancer SUP & Yoga instructor with different clubs in Qatar.
I also teach EFR (Emergency First Response) courses and issue related certificates.
Additionally, I love to join different competitions for dragon boat, swimming & SUP. Recently I have joined a SUP & Dragon Boat Competition event in South Korea (BUSAN) and was one of the top finishers.
What do you like about being an ASI instructor?
I feel proud of being an ASI instructor because of the professional education ASI provide, and the follow up zoom meetings which provide everything new about the SUP and safety protocols, which are so beneficial to transfer this knowledge to clubs in Qatar and students I’m teaching
Tell us about an interesting situation that has happened to you while instructing?
One day I had a session with a client, and while teaching the session we discovered that we were elementary school mates! SUP is a sport where we meet new people, old people, different nationalities, and personalities.
Also, one of my clients had a phobia from seeing the dark bottom sea; he tried to overcome this fear but couldn’t. Finally, we met and spent 3 sessions preparing mentally to overcome his fears, and succeeded! Now, not only is he a diver but also a SUP professional.
…Thanks again to Reham for sharing her ASI Instructor story and insight!
