Introducing ASI Surfing Instructor, Carola Favotto, from Italy

Meet Carola Favotto, an ASI Surfing Instructor from Italy whose passion for surfing transformed her life. 

What is your background? 

I had been studying food science back in Italy. One summer, I couldn’t stop thinking about the fact that I wanted to try surfing so bad. 

What got you involved in the sport?

I went to Morocco for my first trip and as expected I loved it! 

I was so thrilled that every occasion was good for me to escape from University and go to surf! 

Why did you become an ASI instructor?

I ended up quitting University and started to work in surf camps when meeting some friends that were surf instructors convinced me to try to become one.  

My next dream was to go to Australia, the land of surfing and I ended up living there for two beautiful years and worked as a coach. 

That was when I decided to an ASI coach as when one of the schools said I need to be a qualified instructor and they would give me work ! 

What are you doing now ?

I now live in Tenerife (Canary Islands) and planning to go back to Australia. 

I’m currently working in a surf shop and giving some lessons. 

What do you like about being an instructor?

What I love the most about coaching is the looks of the students after they catch a good wave.  It’s just so inspiring to give back what they gave me when my first instructor helped me out! 

Tell us about funny or interesting or nice situation that has happened to you with instructing?

I think probably the most epic moment was when while teaching I caught a wave with my student and on the same wave two dolphins jumped out in front of me.

Then right after a massive ray passed right underneath my board or maybe when I surf with Shakira haha
