Introducing Tim Mulford, SUP Instructor, Perth West Australia

Tim resides in Perth, Western Australia, and holds the title of ASI Level 1 SUP Instructor (Enclosed Flat Water). We had a chance to chat with him about his journey to becoming a SUP Instructor. 

What is your background? / Where do you live?

I’ve always been an outdoor worker and a nature lover, and in recent years, I’ve become an adventure sports enthusiast.

I’m fortunate to live in Perth, where the natural beauty around me inspires my love for the outdoors every day.

What got you involved in the sport?

It all started with a social group booking. I went for one lesson, and I was completely hooked. It’s amazing how quickly it captured my interest!

Why did you become an ASI Instructor?

From the very beginning, I saw how effective well-structured instructions could be. It inspired me to want to help others gain confidence and enjoy SUP just as much as I do.

What are you doing now ?

I work full-time, but twice a week in the evenings and on weekends, I assist at SUP Tonic Australia. I’m involved in classes, events, and our own training sessions.

We’re based in Bassendean, and our paddling sessions take place on the stunning Swan River.  Its super relaxing and a great place to paddle.

What do you like about being an instructor?

I love helping people, regardless of their athletic abilities, to get out on the water and discover the joy of SUP.

Seeing someone’s excitement and newfound confidence is incredibly rewarding.

Tell us about a funny, interesting, or nice situation that has happened to you with instructing.

There’s nothing better than meeting so many lovely people who smile, laugh, and share how much they enjoyed a class or event.

Hearing things like, “I never thought I could do that” or “That was so much fun” is what makes it all worthwhile.
