Introducing Zoltan Gyurian, ASI SUP Instructor, Hungary

Zoltan’s journey highlights the joy of turning passions into a profession.

What is your background?

My name is Zoltan Gyurian, I am from Hungary, I still live there, in Visegrád, next to the Danube River.

I am highly qualified ski instructor.  I also work as a PE teacher in the local elementary school.

I had been stand up paddling for a number of years, at inland locations, in the ocean, small surf conditions and downwinding. 

I qualified as an ASI SUP instructor in 2024. 

What got you involved in the sport?

As a qualified ski instructor, I wanted something to fill the summer season. The moment I tried stand-up paddling, I knew it was exactly what I was looking for.

I love the sense of freedom it brings—it's simple and requires just a board and paddle. It allows me to connect with nature, explore waterways, and experience sights from a unique, water-level perspective.

Paddling in Visegrád, along the Danube River, is especially breathtaking. The calm waters suit beginners and experienced paddlers alike, and the surrounding scenery, with its lush greenery and landmarks like Visegrád Castle, creates a truly serene and picturesque environment. 

Why did you become an ASI instructor?

I wanted to be part of a professional community where I could continue learning and growing. ASI offers top-quality training and connects you to a global network of like-minded professionals.

What are you doing now ?

After becoming qualified, I established my own SUP school, which I run during the summer months. I balance this with my role as a PE teacher and my work as a ski instructor in the winter.

It's the ideal way to combine all the things I love.

I’m current plan to affiliate my SUP school with ASI.

What do you like about being an instructor?

I get to do what I love every day—sharing my passion for stand-up paddling with others.

I meet people from all walks of life, and often, those connections blossom into lasting friendships.

Tell us about an inspiring story about your student(s) or memorable experiences,  you've had while instructing.  

One of the most rewarding experiences as an instructor is introducing people to SUP, especially those who initially know little about it. After a lesson or a SUP tour along the river, it's incredible to witness their excitement as they discover the joy of stand-up paddling.

Seeing them connect with the activity, appreciate its simplicity and beauty, and become eager to continue is truly inspiring—they’re hooked in no time!
