HELP

Cyclone Alfred turned on the waves !   ASI School owner, James Wood, from Kirra Point Surf School, is a local on the Gold Coast and sent us this video of him surfing the massive waves on the Goldie.

He said…. “ it was the most powerful waves I’ve ever felt on the  Gold Coast.

We were lucky enough to experience about a week of good waves before things got pretty hectic and the cyclone made landfall.

A lot of power outages, flooding and uprooted trees causing damage.  Beaches totally washed away.

Hope we can get back into the water soon !”

Cyclone Alfred formed as a tropical low-pressure system in the Coral Sea on February 23, 2025. Over the following days, it intensified into a Category 2 cyclone before making landfall on Bribie Island, located off the coast of Brisbane, Queensland.

It was downgraded to an ex-cyclone as moved onto the mainland, but has brought heavy rainfall and some strong winds to the surrounding areas.  It was very unusual as cyclones rarely make landfall this far south in Queensland and it was very slow moving, with winds whipping up the ocean to produce the waves.

Waves reached heights of 15 metres in some place.  Agnes Water far north Queensland saw swells of 3 metres, when they normally get about 1 metre.
