Where to eat
After a hard day surfing the traditional Cornish pasty is a must. The local town of Hayle has Phillps bakery, where they have been hand crimping their pasties since 1958. Here you can find the largest Cornish pasty in the west.
If you can manage it, try a Cornish cream tea in one of the beach cafes. This is traditionally two warm scones (cakes) spread with jam and cream on top, washed down with a pot of tea.
The Rockpool Bar next to Gwithian Academy of Surfing, has a nice relaxed beach vibe and is situated meters from the surf school overlooking the dunes. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner they serve surf and turf style food and you can grab a coffee and cake any time after a nice beach walk.
Godrevy Beach Café is a hidden gem that sits in the National Trust carpark at Godrevy, about a 3 min walk from the surf school over the dunes. Watch the surfers as you sit back and enjoy fresh Cornish produce at its best. Serving breakfast and lunch, fabulous coffee and homemade cakes to die for.
There is a wealth of restaurants in nearby Hayle to try from Indian, Thai and Chinese to Italian and traditional British fish and chips. Or head to St Ives for even more choice.
What is the best time of year to visit
The best times for visiting Cornwall is between May and September, though it gets very busy during the months of July and August. The temperatures warm up around the end of April-September and the water temperature is around 15 degrees. But the winter months also bring great surf, for intermediate and above levels.
Local tourist attractions
There is plenty to do when you are not in the sea. Just a short drive away are special places of interest such as St Michael's Mount, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, the Minack Theatre, Land's End, Tintagel Castle and the Eden Project. Plus, the nearby traditional fishing villages of Mousehole, Cadgwith and Lamorna are worth a visit. Take a boat trip from Penzance or visit the Tate gallery in St Ives.
