UK, Cornwall - This weekend the 1st -2nd of June 2019 see’s The Celtic Crossing , a 52km crossing from the Scilly Isles to Sennen cove on the Cornish coastline. The Scilly Isles is an archipelago situated 50km south west off Lands End in some of the most dangerous and busiest stretches of ocean in the world. Competitors will have to battle the elements in one of the Worlds Longest Open Ocean Paddle Race.

With an open race like The Celtic Crossing the weather affects everything and as an added dimension the weather and sea states off Lands End can change very quickly and often do. It is very hard to predict much more than a few days in advance if the weather window is going to open for the event. The organisers have the option to reverse the course for smaller craft depending on wind conditions, the call will be made 48hrs prior to the start and adjusted timings will be sent to competitors.

Event coordinator and founder ASI Trainer Glenn Eldridge likes to quote the locals when it comes to the weather conditions - if you can see the Scilly’s from Lands End it is going to rain, if you can’t see the Scilly’s; it already is raining!
