Welcome to New ASI SUP Yoga Instructor Trainer, Chantal Crinquand
Posted: 13 June 2018
Welcome to new ASI SUP Yoga Trainer, Chantal Crinquand, who joins the ASI international training team.
French born Chantal spends half her time in Australia and half in France. Growing up with her feet in the ocean she always had a connection with water. So, it’s not surprising that she gravitated to combining her love of Yoga with Stand Up Paddleboarding.
From instructor to a thriving SUP Yoga business
Her passion for the outdoors, fitness, yoga and the ocean led her to becoming a SUP and Yoga instructor in a watersports school. She says: “Being a qualified instructor gave me knowledge and skills that I could then pass onto others during my lessons. Now I own my own SUP Yoga and Yoga business which allows me to travel between Australia, South East Asia, France and Europe delivering trainings, workshops and retreats. “
And if that’s not enough to keep her busy Chantal also works part time as an academic at the University of Western Australia and is a lecturer and trainer for a vocational institute.
It was a natural progression transitioning from instructing to becoming an ASI trainer. Chantal says: “Having formal qualifications in education, training and assessing is where my skill set lies so it was a logical step to become a trainer with ASI. Plus, being an ASI trainer allows me to travel, delivering quality trainings that are internationally reputable.”
One eye on the future
Chantal wants to continue to deliver training courses in all her current locations and intends to expand to further destinations. “It’s an exciting time for SUP”. She says: “Opportunities always arise in this new and expanding SUP Yoga industry. As more and more people discover SUP Yoga, it will only grow and establish in different countries and I really look forward to introducing this new watersport to others.”
“There is now a global understanding that physical activity is good for the body and the mind. SUP is accessible to such a broad range of people and has become mainstream. Yoga is also mainstream so the combination works really well.”
One of the highlights of her career was bringing SUP Yoga to Yoga festivals in Bali and Australia. She says: “It was the first time these festivals had heard of SUP Yoga and it created a real buzz with so many people trying it out for the first time and loving it!”
A rather flexible student
One of the funniest moments during a SUP Yoga instructor training courses was when she discovered one of the students was particularly agile on the board. She says: “It turned out she was an aerial performer from the Cirque Du Soleil! No wonder she was good at SUP Yoga!”
A few days later, they practised Acro SUP Yoga acrobatics together on a SUP. She says: “It was incredibly challenging and we fell into the water countless times, but such great fun and definitely a memorable time practicing with such a talented performer. “

Chantal loves to share her passions for SUP and SUP Yoga with Yoga teachers who want to take their practice from the mat to the water.
