Wollongong Council, Australia Issues New Surf School Permits

Surf School permits in Wollongong, NSW Australia recently went to tender with permits awarded in November 2017. There are limited permits available and surf schools had to apply and compete with ASI surf schools to obtain a permit which is valid for 5 years.

Wollongong council manages the beaches in the Wollongong area and tender conditions are not the same in different locations. In Wollongong, there were 15 locations available. Each surf school could hold 2 locations only,ranging from suitability for lessons to access for the general public.

The schools also had to stipulate what fee they were prepared to pay annually. The schools had to demonstrate their ability to operate schools safety, having qualified instructors and accreditations, showing a range of services offered, contribution to the local community and environmental impact practices.

They had to submit operational manuals, risk management plans, emergency response, instructor credentials and much, much more. ASI Accredited schools can access documentation specially set up for tenders, plus receive head office support.

Congratulations to ASI accredited surf schools, Pine Surfing Academy and Essential Surf School, who were awarded prime locations in the Wollongong area. They are both experienced local operators and ASI is proud to be working with them in the future.
