Meet the Team
Kirra Point Surf School is owned and operated by James Woods. Taking his first steps in the surf at the age of five, James went on to surf at the elite level. He has twice represented Australia as a junior, was a former two-time Queensland state champion and has travelled the world in search of waves.
He spent four years in France working as a surf instructor before returning to Australia and coaching with surf schools on the Gold Coast.
James holds ASI Surfing Instructor, surf rescue and first aid qualifications. He also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Law and Economics and a Masters in primary school teaching.
He started the surf school as a natural progression from his past experience. The beach and surfing have been a part of James’s life for as long as he can remember.
