Learn how to surf and have surfing lessons at Aurora Surf, an ASI accredited surf school, located at Warrnambool.
It's a small regional town in Victoria, nestled along the south-western coastline, just a three-hour drive west of Melbourne.
Meet the Team
Aurora Surf is owned and operated by Chris Hosie. He is advanced level surfer and has been surfing since he was 14, catching his first wave and he was stoked. Chris has surfed at various locations around Australia and overseas.
His 35 years experience with surfing has been adventurous, family orientated and involved travelling and connecting with the environment, respecting local beach culture and valuing the journey that a surfing lifestyle can offer in both Australia and overseas.
As well as being an ASI Surfing Instructor, Chris is an experienced Outdoor Education Teacher who is registered with the State of Victoria. Chris holds a Degree in Adventure Tourism and Outdoor Education and has experience as an early intervention Alcohol and Other Drugs practitioner, Youth Mentoring, Wilderness First Aid, Indigenous Cultural Understanding training and Surf Rescue.
Being able to introduce others to the health and wellbeing benefits of surfing is something Chris is passionate about. He set up the surf school because of a love of the ocean, a capacity to build community connections, and a keen interest in protecting the coastal environment.

Aurora Surf offers group and private surfing lessons, Surf Wise beginner surfing certificate courses, team building, surfing awareness for all levels from beginner to advanced level, for kids, adults, parties, school groups, parties and corporates.

Whether you're a beginner or looking to refine your skills, group and private surfing lessons are tailored to build confidence and get you standing on the board in no time.
For intermediate to advanced surfing lessons, nearby surf breaks offer the perfect challenge to progress your skills.
School groups are warmly welcomed, with sessions structured to meet educational requirements by Chris, a Registered Education Teacher.
Aurora Surf also offer beach play activities, with games, sand castle building to kite-making and flying, and more, all tailored to the age of the groups.
Their programs make it easy to have fun, learn, and with information that contributes to preserving the natural beauty of the coastline, such as learning about dune ecosystems, tackling ocean plastic pollution, and coastal conservation.
Participants say that the Aurora Surf Instructors were able to make them feel safe and excited to be with them in the waves at Lady Bay Beach.
Location Features
Surf lessons are held at Lady Bay right in town. It is a great place to learn to surf with a beautiful sweeping beach and gentle waves that’s protected by a breakwater.
Warrnambool offers a variety of surf breaks catering to intermediate to advanced levels with waves at Granny’s Grave. The Flume, Logans Beach and Hopkins River Mouth.
Appropriate wave size and location is selected for the lesson based on a skill level for each class, thereby making your surfing experience more enjoyable.

Warrnambool is a popular destination with stunning coastal beauty, rich history, family-friendly attractions and safe swimming beaches. Located at the end of the Great Ocean Road, it offers breathtaking views and easy access to iconic landmarks like the 12 Apostles.
It is home to the Merri Marine Sanctuary, which spans 29 hectares along the coastline from Thunder Point to Breakwater Rock. This sanctuary protects diverse marine habitats, including limestone reefs, sandy beaches, and kelp forests.
