Learn to surf and have surf lessons at the BlackDog Surfing Surf School, an ASI accredited surf school, located at Byron Bay, NSW, just 20 minutes drive south of the Gold Coast.

Lessons are held on the beautiful beaches in Byron Bay. They are famous for their waves catering for all levels of surfing ability.

BlackDog Surfing is one of only a few schools licenced and authorised to operate in Byron Bay.  They don't drive you out of town.

BlackDog Surfing is owned and operated by Dean Johnston  He's been surfing since he was 3 years old and started competing on the Junior surfing circuit when he was 7. He was sponsored by Billabong and Aloha and travelled around Australia and overseas competing until he was 15 years of age.

Dean studied tourism so that he could work overseas whilst chasing the waves. He holds a Diploma in Tourism, Surfing instructor, first aid and surf rescue qualifications.  He has worked extensively in the tourism industry working in hotels including providing surfing lessons to guests.

Dean started BlackDog Surfing in 2002 and is assisted by a team of highly qualified surfing instructors.

Black Dog Surfing offers group and private surfing lessons, from the beginner to advanced surfer, surfing guide trips, team building, Surf Wise beginner and intermediate surfing certificate courses, surfing awareness, board hire for kids, adults, family groups, parties, school groups and corporates.

There is a limit of 7 people to one instructor in group surfing lessons so you get lots of personalised attention. They find the best and safest waves.  Add to this, Dean's specially developed instruction techniques and you are up and riding in no time.

Intermediate to advanced lessons are available to help you improve your surfing ability.
