Meet the Team
Byron Stand Up Paddle is owned and operated by Ricky Jacobson. He is an experienced surfer of over 30 years and got involved in stand up paddleboarding during rehabilitation after injuring his knee.
His new appreciation for the sport blossomed into a thriving passion to share the joy of SUP with others and he started Byron Stand Up Paddle in 2014. They are one of the most established SUP Schools in Australia, and have won many Trip Advisor awards over the years.
Born and bred in the Byron area, Ricky has extensive knowledge and pride of his local waterways and fantastic natural surroundings.
They are a family run business and pride themselves on being one of the top things to do in Byron Bay.
Ricky holds his ASI Level 1 and 2 SUP instructor qualifications, and is assisted in the SUP school with ASI accredited SUP Instructors.
Service Overview
Byron Stand Up Paddle offers group and private lessons and SUP tours for all ages, corporate groups and parties.
The tours are their real speciality and they tailor these adventures to paddlers of all abilities from beginner to advanced.
With extensive local knowledge, Ricky knows all the rivers twists and bends and is able to tailor each tour to the conditions depending on the tide and winds. So you have the best, scenic and safest places to paddle in.
By keeping numbers down on the tours, Byron Stand Up Paddle ensures that every paddler is catered for and enjoys something truly memorable.
Byron Stand Up Paddle can even arrange for families with younger children to experience the adventure, and have had children as young as three sitting on their parent’s board for the unforgettable tour.
SUP board rentals are also available.
Location Features
SUP tours and lessons are held on the Brunswick River, Byron Bay. It just outside of Brunswick Heads (8 minutes north of Byron Bay once on the highway).
Brunswick River is a part of the Cape Byron Marine Park. There are calm and clear waters, perfect for stand-up paddleboarding. It's an ideal spot for beginners and experienced paddlers alike.
The river flows through lush rainforests and mangroves, offering breathtaking views and a serene environment.
While paddling, you can spot a variety of wildlife, including ospreys, white-bellied sea eagles, fish, turtles and baby stingrays.
The natural beauty of the area makes it a perfect spot for relaxation and allows you to connect with nature and enjoy the tranquility of the river.
