Meet the Team
Evans Head Surf School is owned and managed by John Plenkovich. He's been surfing for more than 30 years and is an elite advanced surfer having surfed around Australia, Asia, Europe and Africa. He got involved in SUP in its early days.
John was born and grew up in Evans Head and has extensive knowledge of the waterways.
He has worked for SUP and surf schools, as surf guide on yacht charters and surfing tour companies taking people for extended surfing trips in remote surf locations in Australia. He's also an accomplished kayak guide .
John is a professional lifesguard at the silver Medallion level and also holds certifications for ASI SUP Instructor (Enclosed Flat Water), SUP Kayak Instructor, Big Wave Tow in jetski operator, ASI Level 3 Surfing Coach.
Service Overview
Evans Head Surf School offers group and private stand up paddle lessons for enclosed Flat Water locations, for kids, adults, parties, girls only, school sports groups and corporates.
SUP board rentals are available, with all accessories supplied.
Evans Head Surf Shack also provides surfing and kayaking activities, your one stop shop for watersports fun !
Transport to and from Byron Bay is provided. If you are on public bus transport, phone in advance and we'll pick you up from the highway.
Location Features
Stand up paddling sessions are held on the Evans Rivers. It is a pristine and calm waterway located in the heart of Evans Head. Its calm waters make it an excellent spot for both beginners and experienced paddlers.
The Surf Shack is located right on the river, and is the ideal location to launch from and go paddling.
The river offers stunning views and a serene environment, making it a great place to relax and enjoy nature. The area is rich in wildlife, including koalas and sea eagles.
You can make a day of it as the river has barbecue facilities, picnic areas, and walking tracks along the river's edge.
