Meet the Team
Evans Head Surf School is owned and managed by John Plenkovich. He's been surfing for more than 30 years and is a big wave, elite-advanced level surfer having surfed around Australia, Asia, Europe and Africa.
John was born and grew up in Evans Head and has extensive knowledge of the surf beaches. He holds ASI Level 3 Surfing Coach accreditation and has worked for surf schools, as surf guide on yacht charters and surfing tour companies taking people for extended surfing trips in remote surf locations in Australia.
John is a professional lifesguard at the Gold Medallion level and also holds certifications for ASI SUP Instructor (Enclosed Flat Water), SUP Kayak Instructor, Big Wave Tow in jetski operator.
Service Overview
Evans Head Surf School offers group and private surfing lessons, beginner and intermediate surfing certificate courses, surfing guide trips, team building, surfing awareness for kids, adults, parties, backpackers, school groups and corporates.
There is a range of surf breaks from perfect beginner waves to the more advanced level. No matter what the conditions, there is generally a wave to be found!
The school also provides SUP and kayaking - so you can try a range of activities and experience the natural beauty of the area.
Transport to and from Byron Bay is provided. If you are on public bus transport, phone in advance and we'll pick you up from the highway.
School Features
Parking and toilet facilities are located on the foreshore.
Location Features
Surf lessons are held are Main Beach. Other beaches are used depending on the conditions.
Surrounded by national parks, it is very scenic and you often spot wildlife such as kangeroos on the shore watching you, and dolphins in ocean surfing alongside you.
Choose from a variety of size waves with ideal conditions for beginners and larger waves for people wanting to improve their surfing skills.
Evans Head has pristine beaches with golden sands and clear waters. Surf conditions are great all year round and especially in winter.
