Learn how to stand up paddle and have SUP lessons and tours at Freewave Surf Academy, an ASI accredited learn to SUP school, located at Bude, Cornwall, UK.
They operate right in town, on the calm waters of the Bude Canal.
Meet the Team
Freewave Surfing Academy is owned and operated by Robin Ross Edmonds. He is an experienced paddler and advanced level surfer. His early experience saw him kayaking in white water, surf and sea from 2002.
He got involved in SUP back in 2012 to complement his surfing activities and was perfect when there wasn’t any suitable surf.
Robin is an accredited ASI SUP instructor and an ASI surfing instructor. In addition, he delivers the local beach lifeguard programmes, first aid training and is an ASI Trainer, approved to train ASI Level 1 surfing instructors. Robin has a wealth of information on the local area.
He established Freewave Surf Academy – a surf school – in 2010. In 2022, he started offering SUP activities as the Bude canal has excellent paddling conditions and to also offer another activity to his surfing clients.
Robin also set up Bude SUP Club, for social paddles and to cater for people interested in paddling on a regular basis.
He is assisted in the SUP School with ASI accredited SUP instructors.
Service Overview
Freewave Surf Academy offers group and private lessons, SUP Wise learn to SUP certificate courses, SUP tours, team building for kids, adults, backpackers, parties, hens and stag parties, school groups, and corporates.
Rentals are also available.
Join the Bude SUP club social paddles. It provide the perfect opportunity for you to unwind, have fun, meet people, stay fit, learn a new skill and explore the waterways of Bude.
School Features
There is ample parking, public toilets and showers nearby.
Shops and cafes are right at the start of the canal. Make a day of it with paddling and then relax with a bite to eat and drink after your paddle.
Location Features
SUP sessions are held at the Bude canal, based in the town centre. Offering 2 miles of paddling in smooth, sheltered waters. The canal is not very wide or very deep so it is perfect for anyone who is not too confident on the water.
There is an abundance of birdlife with swans and ducks swimming alongside as you paddle along.
The area is also drenched in Cornish beauty with a surrounding of breath taking scenery, rolling green hills and towering cliffs.
Bude canal is the perfect place to paddle on at any time of the year.
