Learn how to stand up paddle and have SUP lessons at Kite and SUP, an ASI accredited SUP school, located at Warners Bay on the northern end of Lake Macquarie. Conveniently located just 15 minutes from Newcastle and 2 hours north of Sydney, it's the perfect destination for paddle enthusiasts.
Meet the Team
Kite and SUP is owned and operated by David Sorenson. He’s an elite SUP surfer and has been supping since 2007 and also has a kite and windsurfing background. David competed professionally in rollerblading in Australia and New Zealand and in kitesurfing was rated 3rd in mens in Australia and 2nd in masters.
David holds ASI SUP Instructor qualifications. He is also a qualified kite surfing instructor and has been teaching kite surfing for over 15 years. He was previously a snowboard instructor.
Dave started the SUP school as a complement to the kite surfing school. SUP is great fun and has fantastic fitness benefits.
He is assisted in the SUP School with ASI accredited SUP Instructors.
Service Overview
Kite and SUP offers group and private stand up paddle lessons in enclosed flat water locations for kids, adults, parties, school groups and corporate, family groups – anyone interested in trying out the sport, sup fitness, cruising or racing.
They specialise in school groups and can organise school sports programs over the school term.
Kite and SUP have a retail shop with one of the largest ranges of SUP equipment in NSW.
Trained staff will help you choose the right SUP board and paddle to suit your experience and ambitions. You can also test the boards before you buy.
School Features
SUP lessons and tours are held in Warners Bay, from Warners Reserve, at the northern end of Lake Macquarie.
There are ideal conditions for learning to SUP or to take in a tour and enjoy the scenery.
Lake Macquarie is the largest coastal saltwater lake in Australia, offering calm flat waters, stunning views and a serene environment. Paddling here allows you to enjoy the natural beauty of the lake and its surroundings.
The lake is home to a variety of wildlife, including birds and fish. You might even spot some dolphins, as you paddle along, if you're lucky! It's a great way to connect with nature while getting some exercise.
Location Features
Warners Reserve is easily accessible and has good facilities, including parking and picnic areas. There are also cafes nearby.
This makes it convenient for a day out with family or friends.
Tourist Attractions
Warners Bay is a fantastic destination for a day trip or a weekend getaway, offering a mix of outdoor activities, art, and dining options.
The Warners Bay foreshore has 9kms of shared pathways for strolling or bike riding. It also includes the Red Bluff Boardwalk an elevated boardwalk that offers stunning views of the lake.
The Sculpture Trail is found along the foreshore, is an eclectic collection of contemporary artworks by Australian artists.
