Learn how to surf and have surfing lessons at Sal’s Surf School, an ASI accredited surf school located at Umina Beach, Central Coast NSW, only 1 hr 15 mins drive (88 km) north of Sydney city centre.

The school’s mission is not only to teach people to surf but to educate everyone about the importance of surf, beach safety, surf etiquette, environmental responsibilities and the value of leading a healthy and active lifestyle. 

Sally Oman is an experienced surfer and has surfed for the last 15 years. She has travelled the world working and surfing at many of the classic surf breaks. She regularly enters boardrider surf competitions and is a valued member of the local boardriders club.  Sal has a degree in education plus a Health and Physical Education teaching qualification.

After teaching abroad for 4 years, Sal returned to her hometown of Ocean Beach, Central Coast NSW.  She noticed that there was a lack of surfing services in the local area for locals and visitors that offered affordable access to surfing in a safe, social and educational environment.   She decided to combine her teaching experience with her love of surfing and started Sal’s Surf School.

Sal and all the surf coaches at Sal’s Surf School hold their ASI surfing instructor qualification as well as Senior First Aid, Bronze Medallion and Working with Children certificates.

Sal’s Surf School offers group and private surfing lessons, beginner to advanced ASI Surf Wise surfing certificate courses, team building, surfing awareness for kids, adults, parties, school groups, and corporates.

Sal’s Surf School’s also specialises in running kids after school surf programmes and kids weekend surf programmes from 1 day to 8 weeks. 

She developed her kids surf programmes to give local kids the opportunity to learn about beach safety, develop their surfing skills all while socialising with other local kids.

Sal also offers adult learn to surf weekend programs that run for 8 weeks.

Surf lessons are held at the Umina Beach at Umina, Central Coast. It is a protected bay that offers consistent waves all year round that are perfect for learners and for intermediate surfers to develop their skills.

It is a very safe beach that is patrolled year round.

The surf school utilises multiple nearby beach breaks, depending on the surf conditions, which are all within walking distant of the car park.

Sessions are also held at nearby Blacksmiths Beach, depending on the conditions.
