Learn to surf and have surf lessons at the Scotts Head Surf School, an ASI accredited surf school, located at Scotts Head, just one hour south of Coffs Harbour, and 480 kilometres (300 miles) north of Sydney, NSW Australia.
Meet the Team
Scotts Head Surf School is owned and operated by Paul Evans. He's been surfing since he was 5 years old. He started competing at young age with places in the Billabong Pro Junior Series and winning the Balin Pro at Gunnamatta Bay. Between 1998 and 2000 he competed full time on the word surfing circuit and was placed consistently in the top 100.
Paul is from the local area and has travelled the world extensively as a pro surfer. He worked as a surfing instructor in Sydney before moving back to his home town to start up the surf school in 2004. He is an ASI accredited surfing instructor, holds his surf rescue and senior first aid qualifications. Paul is assisted by a team of highly qualified surfing instructors.
Paul started the surf school because of this love of surfing and the fun that goes with it. He wanted to offer lessons from beginner to advanced and has developed special lesson formats to so you learn maximum skills and have great fun at the same time.
Service Overview
Scotts Head Surf School offers group and private surfing lessons, from the beginner to advanced surfer, surfing guide trips, team building, beginner and intermediate to advanced surfing certificate courses, surfing awareness, board hire for kids, adults, family groups, parties, school groups and corporates.
Special school holiday kids and after school programs are offered, and caters for all levels of ability.
Private lessons are also provided for elite advanced and competition coaching skills and techniques.

Location Features
Scotts Head Surf School operates at the main beach at Scotts Head (known as Forsters Beach). It is one of the best locations to learn to surf.
The beach is located in a bay, with white sands and nice easy waves to catch, with no rocks and a very safe location.
It’s also very scenic, with nature all round and excellent surf.
If you want to progress your surfing skills, there are excellent surf breaks for the intermediate and above levels. Locations will be dependent on the conditions on the day.
Paul has extensive local knowledge and will choose the best locations depending on your skill.
School Features
The beach is patrolled during the summer months and offers excellent facilities, including free gas barbecues, modern amenities blocks, and picnic tables.

Nearby is the Gaagal Wanggaan (South Beach) National Park. It’s a serene national park that offers beautiful bush walks, scenic coastal trials, and bird watching.
Scotts Head is also a prime location for whale watching during the annual migration season. From the shore or on a boat tour, you can witness the majestic humpback whales and playful dolphins in their natural habitat.
