Gary is local to Byron Bay and has been involved in the local family run surfboard factory, Maddog Surfboards with his older brother since the 1970s, highlighting his deep-rooted connection to the local surf culture.   He has been surf coaching since 1986.  In 2000 Gary set up  Style Surfing School Byron Bay to share his love of the sport and provide high quality surfing instruction.               

Gary’s qualifications include ASI Level 3 Surfing Coach and lifeguarding qualifications and is also an ASI Surfing Instructor trainer and authorised to train others to become surfing instructors.
