Meet the Team
Surfdancer, owned by Kristy Quirk, offers a unique way to learn surfing by incorporating dance steps into traditional surfing skills through Surf Dancing. This innovative approach enhances movement and makes learning to surf fun and engaging.
Kristy is a skilled surfer, surfing instructor and dance teacher with over 20 years of experience in both fields. She has competed in surfing competitions, represented Queensland in the Australian titles, and holds various qualifications, including ASI Level 3 Surfing Coach, Bronze Medallion Surf Lifesaving and Jet Ski licence and is an experienced snow and outdoors activity guide.
Since its establishment in 2005, Surfdancer Surf School has become one of Australia's most esteemed surf schools, merging Kristy’s love for both dance and surfing to create the world’s first Surf Dancing initiative.
Kristy is well-regarded locally for her expertise and is a highly sought-after surf coach. She collaborates with the surf club and local schools to teach surfing and ocean awareness. Her creative and effective learning techniques make the process enjoyable and relaxed.
She is assisted in the surf school by a team of highly experience and accredited instructors.
Service Overview
Surfdancer offers both group and private lessons in surf dancing and traditional surfing, catering to beginners to advanced level. They also provide competition skills coaching, team building activities for kids, adults, parties, school groups, and corporate events.
The school runs kids' holiday programs, surf sessions for groms, and specializes in school surfing programs and surf safety education programs.
Learn to surf dance lessons improve spatial awareness, strength, flexibility and encourage a full range of body movements on the surfboard. Classes can include yoga, dance, percussion, song, synchronised surfing and the sharing of movement patterns that focus on finding your rhythm and flow for progressive modern surfing.
