About Sally

Sal is the owner, operator and head coach of the Sal’s Surf School and has lived in Umina Beach her entire life. She knows the beaches and community members very well. She is an active member of all 3 boardriders clubs.

Sal is also a qualified PE & Health teacher who has personally developed the surf programs. Her in-depth knowledge, understanding and experience of pedagogy within the surfing environment is pivotal in the success her clients have in the water. She also has years of experience working with children with additional needs, and again this knowledge ensures that surfing is accessible and inclusive for everyone.

She aims to increase lifelong physical activity among locals and to assist clients in developing a sense of belonging within the Umina Beach surfing community. This community centred approach offers everyone the opportunity to learn and succeed in a fun, social and supportive environment.

Sal truly believes in grassroots sports and encourages her clients to join and get involved with the local boardriders clubs, no matter their level or experience. By doing this she knows these clubs will continue to build and a variety of people will volunteer in helping to further develop these community initiatives.

Sal runs lessons for kids, teenagers and adults as well as day trips and weekend surf trips. Her client base is 90% locals who remain within the surf school from being a complete beginner until they reach that intermediate level.

Sal then offers specific programs for intermediates such as URBN wave pool surf day trips and Central Coast Day trips. Sal collaborates with other surf schools to run surf trips on the Central Coast, Mid North Coast and even the Sunshine Coast. She loves working with other surf coaches as she values different coaching techniques and methods and working with the locals.

• Competed in local boardriders competitions for Umina Boardriders and Ocean Beach Malibu Club

Coaching and Training Experience

• Trains ASI instructors 

• Surfing instructor since 2017, coaching beginner to intermediate level

• Owner of surf school, Sal’s Surf School, in Umina Beach on the Central Coast, since 2017

• Organises and runs surf trips from 1 – 7 nights

• Organises and runs day trips to URBN surf wave pool Sydney for higher beginners to intermediate kids and adults
