About us
Learn how to Stand Up Paddle and have SUP lessons and tours at Albany Outdoors, an ASI accredited stand up paddle school, located at Kingston upon Thames, Surrey. Only 25 minutes by train from Central London.
As well as the ASI certificate of accreditation, Albany Outdoors holds an AALA (Adventure Activity Licence Authority) licence, are a British Canoeing Activity quality provider and a Royal Yachting Association training centre.
Meet the Team
Jerry Scott-Maber, Russ Ives and Gemma Browne run the Centre. Together they bring about 40 years of Watersports centre management experience
Jerry is an accomplished Level 3 paddle sports Coach, converting from canoe to SUP because he wanted to bring the joy of paddleboarding to all as he found that SUP was so accessible for every one of any age and ability.
Russ, likewise, has paddle sports and also sailing experience, and finds that SUP is an absolute joy to teach with students learning faster than on any other sport he has coached.
Gemma is a kayaking and surf ski athlete as well as a SUP instructor and brings a range of experience from coaching to competition.
Jerry, Russ and Gemma are assisted in the SUP School with a team of experienced ASI accredited SUP Instructors who also hold first aid and rescue certifications.
Service Overview
The centre offers groups and private lessons, learn to SUP certificate courses, SUP tours and taster sessions, team building, for kids, adults, birthday parties, school groups, universities, colleges and corporates.
There is also the Family Hampton Court Adventure River days, evening paddleboarding 18+, and adult fun adventure experiences, school holiday courses for children, and the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Activity sessions can be structured programs of learning leading to qualifications or one-off taster sessions, end of term celebrations, beginner term icebreakers, learn outside classroom sessions and team building.

Albany Outdoors is located on the water. There are indoor facilities, toilets, showers, parking and a large storage area for equipment.
Cafes and restaurants are all close by.
Location Features
SUP sessions are held on the stretch of the river Thames between Kingston Bridge and Teddington Lock. There is calm flat water here for beginners and also access to the shelter of an island and secluded backwaters to explore by SUP for tours. It provides the ideal conditions for paddling for leisure or to improve technique.
