The ASI Level 2 SUP Instructor course covers the skill and knowledge to deliver sessions at open ocean coastal locations, that may have swell up to 2ft (no breaking waves) and uneven choppy waters.
This course is recognised as the best and most comprehensive stand up paddle instructor course in the world and prepares instructors to deliver SUP lessons and tours with safety and confidence.

Aim
Deliver basic SUP lessons, short SUP paddle tours and SUP rentals at exposed waters locations.
This course builds on the ASI Level 1 SUP instructor (Enclosed Flat Water) course and focusses on exposed waters hazards, techniques and instruction methods.
Locations
Qualified to instruct at Exposed Waters locations, defined as:
coastal beaches and bays
large harbours open to the ocean and subject to 2ft swell
shore break less than 1½ feet
swell size 1 to 2ft
no breaking waves
wind speed less than 12 knots, offshore wind less than 10 knots
no more than 250 metres from shore

Entry Requirements
Before starting this course:
have at least 100 hours on water SUP paddling experience in exposed waters.
be confident in paddling in minimum swell of 2ft and wind speed of 15 knots.
able to paddle with confidence, correct technique, knowledge and safety. Equivalent to ASI SUP Wise Exposed Waters level
English speaking skills.
Pre-requisite Courses
have completed or are completing the ASI Level 1 SUP Instructor (Enclosed Flat Water) qualification. Can be completed at the same time as enrolling in this instructor course.
Study Options
The following study options are available for this course.
Workshop: An intensive course that focuses on the major components, with the ability to interact with the trainer and the group.
Duration: 1 day.
Flexible Online Learning: Study in your own time with ASI's e-learning platform. Upload video to demonstrate skills.
Update: For ASI instructors whose qualification has expired and need to regain the ASI qualification. This is an online course option.
Transfer: Is not available for Level 2 SUP Instructor (Exposed Waters). There are some exceptions, please contact ASI to find out more.
Fasttrack: An online course with a face to face workshop. Cover key skills at the workshop to prepare you to submit video skill evidence after workshop. Fasttrack combined courses allow you to complete required and pre-requisite courses at the same time.

ASI's e-learning platform provides access to training manuals, videos, reference materials and assessments. Access is available for all the above delivery options.
Course Requirements
Here is what you complete to gain your ASI Level 2 SUP Instructor (Exposed Waters) qualification.

Knowledge and Skills
Review ASI theory, complete assessments and exercises.
Complete multi-choice online tests.
Demonstrate correct paddle stroke technique in exposed waters with swell
Complete paddling mission test -paddle for 1 km (0.6 miles) in exposed waters with swell, under 10 mins.
Practical Hours Experience
Complete 10 hours practical work experience, assisting in the delivery of SUP lessons at exposed waters locations, at an ASI accredited SUP school or other approved SUP school. Demonstrate ability to deliver sessions. Submit logbook of hours and declaration signed by SUP school owner.
Other
Have completed the ASI Level 1 SUP Instructor (Enclosed Flat Water) course.

Submit a current ASI SUP water rescue or other surf rescue certificate Acceptable Rescue certificates

Enrolment
To become an ASI Level 2 SUP Instructor for exposed waters locations, the following 4 ASI courses are required.
ASI SUP Wise Intensiv
ASI Level 1 SUP Instructor (Enclosed Flat Water)
ASI Level 2 SUP Instructor (Exposed Waters)
ASI SUP Water Safety Rescue Award
These courses can be completed alongside each other/ at the same time.
Order of Training:
To enrol in Level 2 SUP Instructor course, means you must enrol in all 4 courses - as listed above. (These courses can be completed alongside each other).
There is no requirement to complete ASI SUP Rescue before enrolling. So you can enrol in 3 courses only.
If you have previously completed SUP Wise Intensiv and L1 SUP instructor course, you can just enrol in 1 course - the L2 SUP Instructor course.
Online:
Enrolment for SUP Wise Intensive and L1 SUP Instructor course is also required. You can enrol in these at the same time as the L2 SUP Instructor course.
Workshop:
You must attend (or have completed) the SUP Wise Intensiv and Level 1 SUP Instructor workshop prior to attending the Level 2 SUP Instructor course. You can enrol in all at the same time
