Deliver and instruct beginner SUP surfing sessions, in surf up to 1½ ft (½ metre).
Locations
Beginner SUP surfing locations are defined as:
- non pitching (shallow plunging) waves up to 1½ ft (½ metre)
- sandy beach with even gradient and channel
- free from strong rips, hazards, dumping shore break.
- wind speed less than 12 knots/miles per hour
- offshore winds less than 10 knots/miles per hour.
- no more than 100 metres (320 ft) from shore.
- at least 100 metres (300 ft), downwind from lifesaving flags.
- unpopulated surf spots

Entry Requirements
Before starting this course, you must:
Have over 100 hours SUP surfing experience in 3-4ft waves
Have at least intermediate SUP surfing skill and knowledge level. Able to perform bottom turn, top turn & cutback on forehand & backhand in 3-4ft surf.
Pre-requisite Courses
Hold the ASI Level 2 Stand Up Paddle Instructor (Exposed Waters) certificate
Hold or completing the ASI SUP Wise-Intermediate SUP Surfing skills. You can enrol in this course at the same time as enrolling in this Level 3 SUP Instructor course.

Workshop: An intensive course that focuses on the major components, with the ability to interact with the trainer and the group.
Duration: 1 day workshop.
Course Requirements
Knowledge & Skill Requirements
Complete multi-choice online tests.
Workshop: after the workshopDemonstrate intermediate SUP surfing skills
Workshop: practice at workshop. Video submitted post workshop.
Practical Hours Experience
Complete 25 hours practical work experience, assisting in the delivery of beginner SUP surfing lessons, at an ASI or approved SUP school.
Workshop: after the workshop. Recognition of previous SUP instruction experience can be provided.

First aid and surf rescue certificates can be provided before or after workshop or within 12 months of enrolment.

Each year, ASI SUP Instructors renew their ASI SUP Instructor certificates.
